Paper Cuttings

Paper cutting as an art form originated in China and dates back all the way to the 2nd Century CE - when paper was invented by Cai Lun of the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. They were often glued to the exterior of the windows, allowing the light to shine through the negative space, creating various patterns and designs.

The Tree of Life is a symbol that has existed almost as long as humans have; it has been represented in Buddhist, African, Christianity, Ancient Egypt, Turkish and Celtic cultures. Though these systems of culture and theology reflect multicultural ideals, there are unifying strains; namely, the tree of life commonly symbolizes a connection to the afterlife, ancestral roots and divinity.
